In der Bonner Innenstadt, nahe der Kaiserpassage, verweisen eine rote Leuchtreklame und die Gestalt einer asiatischen Frau auf das Buffet-Restaurant „Miss Saigon“. Benannt nach dem berühmten Musical ist das „Miss Saigon“ irgendwo zwischen Restaurant und Kantine einzuordnen. Man betritt einen Raum, in dem sämtliche asiatische Gerichte, die einem Durchschnittsmitteleuropäer bekannt sind, angeboten werden: von chinesischen Miniloempia über vietnamesisches, koreanisches, thailändisches Essen bis hin zu japanischem Sushi und einer kleinen Salatbar.

Unter den Dutzenden von China-Restaurants in Bonn nimmt das „Shanghai“ nicht nur aufgrund seiner Lage, sondern auch seines kulinarischen Angebots eine Sonderstellung ein. Der kleine Imbiss direkt am Uni-Hauptgebäude (Ecke Am Hof / Am Neutor, am Martinsplatz) tritt den Beweis an, dass man sogar noch günstiger satt werden kann als in der hochsubventionierten Uni-Mensa. In den beiden Happy-Hours mittags und abends kostet ein nahrhafter und vitaminreicher Falafel nur 1 Euro, ein Döner 1,50 Euro (vor dem Unterrichtsbesuch empfiehlt es sich, statt der Knoblauchsauce die Sesam-Sauce zu wählen). Manchmal muss man zwar etwas Schlange stehen, kann aber dabei den flinken Imbiss-Mitarbeitern bewundernd bei ihren perfektionierten Arbeitsabläufen zusehen.
